Last winter and spring, the National Weather Service logged repeated high-wind reports around Evanston. The strongest gust in the past year was 90 mph near Almy on February 17, 2026, per National Weather Service storm reports.
What was reported in the past 12 months
Within 20 miles of Evanston, Bear River, Lyman, Mountain View, Fort Bridger, Kemmerer, Diamondville and Cokeville:
- 80 wind, hail and heavy-snow reports, on 25 different days.
- The busiest months were December (30 reports), March (16) and May (10).
- Peak gusts near Almy: 84 mph on December 19, 2025; 90 mph on February 17, 2026; 85 mph on March 15, 2026; and 85 mph on May 13, 2026.
What you can check from the ground, before the snow
- Missing, lifted or curled shingles.
- Shingle pieces or debris in the yard after a windy night.
- Gutters that sag or pull away from the house.
- Water stains on ceilings or in the attic.
Please don’t climb on your roof. A safe look from the ground and from inside the attic is enough to spot most warning signs.
